Collections Care for Access

Museum Development Fund 2007-2008

The Museum Development Fund Small Grants has grown out of the recent Collections Care and Conservation Mapping Exercise undertaken by Halahan Consultants on behalf of Renaissance NW during 2006. We usually contact our custom sociology essay writing service to make sure the information presented on the site is correctly updated.

Renaissance North West support is available in grants of up to £5,000 for initiatives delivered by non-Hub museums and galleries, which are realistic and deliverable, and have clear ambitions for projects carried out by regional museums and galleries and taking place by 31st March 2008. These projects will explore The Accreditation Standard, in particular but not exclusively Section 4.5, Benchmarks in Collections Care and the Collections for the Future Agenda.

This may be through:

  • Open Storage
  • Targeted conservation to support access to collections on display or items for loan and touring exhibitions
  • Improvements to collections care for objects on display
  • Training in the use and interpretation of environmental data
  • Funding for condition surveys to be carried out by conservators, to establish the conservation priorities of a museum.

Collections for the Future Challenge Fund 2007 – 2008

The Collections for the Future Challenge fund is for inspired collections’ interpretation and access projects carried out by regional museums and galleries and taking place by 31st March 2008. This is an opportunity to experiment, take risks, to do something imaginative and innovative with collections.

Renaissance North West support is available in grants of up to £5,000 for initiatives delivered by non-Hub museums and galleries, which are realistic and deliverable, and have clear ambitions to explore the Engagement and Dynamic Collections themes of the Collections for the Future agenda, in particular by increasing access to unknown or underused parts of collections that may be currently in store or on display.

This may be through:

  • redisplay and reinterpretation
  • events and activities
  • interpretative materials such as information panels, publications
  • opening up collection stores
  • digitisation
  • research and development, including travel and buying in expertise for specific collections’ access research projects, including long loans or transfers of collections

Deadline for receipt of applications to both schemes

Thursday 10th May 2007 at 5pm.

Other Information

Multiple applications from organisations to one or both schemes are welcome. However, the application process is competitive.
