Lancaster in National victory!

Get It Loud in Libraries, the groundbreaking project from Lancaster Library has won in the Love Libraries Award 2007, beating off tough competition from four rivals in a public vote.

The Love Libraries Award, run by Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) celebrates the work library services do to inspire teenagers and young people under the age of 25. Lancaster Library is breathing new life into the service, with some of the latest bands performing exclusive gigs in the library and bringing in diverse crowds.
Heritage Lottery Fund and National Heritage Memorial Fund recruiting trustees

Over the next few months there will be five vacancies arising on the Board of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF). The Board requires a Chair and four new Trustees; all appointments will begin during 2008.

MLA North West announces workforce development programme

A six month workforce development programme has been announced by MLA North West, which has been devised through brokering relationships with training providers and the sector offering mostly free professional development opportunities to all staff working in museums, libraries and archives in the North West.
The Art Fund Prize

The Museum Prize Trust has announced details of this year’s greatest museum prize – now The Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries (formerly the Gulbenkian Prize). £100,000 will be awarded to the museum or gallery for a project completed in 2007. A longlist of ten museums and galleries will be announced in late January, going down to a short list of four in March.

MLA North West welcomes over £400,000 funding boost for north west regional museums.

Forty-three museums and galleries in England will benefit from grants totalling £4 million, Culture Minister Margaret Hodge announced today. Provided jointly by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Wolfson Foundation, the grants will help improve the quality of museum displays and the visitor experience.

National Museums Liverpool, Peoples’ History Museum and Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery have successfully applied for grants in the North West, for an imaginative array of projects aimed at improving access and understanding of our cultural heritage.
Archives Awareness Campaign

‘Freedom and Liberty’ is this year’s theme for the national Archives Awareness Campaign that runs throughout the autumn. Hundreds of events are happening across the country, encouraging the public to engage with and get excited about the nations archives. Archives can register events onto the Archive Awareness Campaign website by logging on to www.archiveawareness.com.

New funding to learn from conflicts of yesteryear

An initiative to bring the past to life by creating learning materials, events and exhibitions about conflict has been announced by the Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA) Partnership. Museums, libraries and archives have been invited to apply for a pot of funding totalling £1.5million.

GET IT LOUD in Lancaster! Library project faces four rivals in national award final

The Love Libraries award moves towards an exciting climax today with Lancaster Library’s Get it Loud project facing four rivals in a public vote to decide the winner. The award celebrates the work libraries do with young people and attracted 48 nominations from across England.
