Date: 18 June 2007
Location: Salford University
Duration: 9.00-5.00
Cost: £160

As a librarian in a joint use library, how do you:

  • Communicate effectively with managers from two or more organisations (eg headteachers, public library managers/councillors, college principals, NHS mangers)?
  • Communicate effectively with staff from different backgrounds and different sectors?
  • Support different types of users (eg general public, students, clinicians)?
  • Reconcile the conflicting priorities, missions and aims of the organisations involved in a joint use library?
  • Promote the necessary changes to traditional practices?

This one day course will introduce you to ways to:

  • ways to engage with people
  • build rapport
  • find out how someone is motivated to learn
  • tell whether someone wants you to “sell” them a benefit or solve a problem for them
  • discover how to enhance library/user relationships
