If you have recently moved into a newly built apartment, and have just taken down the flats to rent sign from the window, the chances are good that you are keen to begin to make the space feel a little more like home. Often, a brand new building can be a fairly sterile environment; personalise yours in a few simple steps.
To begin with, you will want to put some colour on the walls. If your landlord is not a fan of tenants painting their flats in gregarious colours, hang up lively drapes and attractive wall hangings in order to create a warm, personal atmosphere that really speaks to your identity.
Pictures are also a great way to begin to make your mark on a flat. Choose canvases that really say something about you; indeed, if you can manage it, why not produce a few pieces of your own? Alternatively, opt for important photographs in beautiful frames; these will immediately lend a sense of personal identity to your home.
Finally, it is important to have items that you love around you in your home. Unless you are keen to live in a clinical environment, display your favourite ornaments and objects on shelves and coffee tables. Again, these will help you to mould the interior atmosphere to suit your personality.
In order successfully to turn a very sterile, newly-built environment into your home, you will need to treat the space as a blank sheet onto which to project your character. Do this by furnishing the place with items that are important to you, and by choosing a colour palette that similarly suits your personality.
