We are not going to concentrate on saving the environment in this article - that is all very well for anyone who believes that we can actually make any difference in our tiny country, but for the realists in this world, let us simply emphasise on ways of trying to save money in our home.
Firstly then, we need to look at heat within the property. As this country has experienced three relatively severe winters in succession, we have all had something of a wakeup call where this matter is concerned. Before the next winter arrives with a vengeance, make sure you check the whole house for draughts and insulation. If there is a problem with either, you will have to pay more to keep the house heated.
Next, we turn our attention to the cost of electricity in the home. There are ways of saving here for most people. You should never leave lights on in rooms that are unoccupied and you should always switch off electrical appliances when not in use, and refrain from leaving on standby. You should also try to do loads of washing later at night, as this will mean a cheaper rate of electricity.
If you can, you may even want to think about installing solar pv panels. This way you will be able to generate your own electricity within your property and this will mean that you are far less reliant on the increasingly greedy energy companies.
With money so tight for most of us lately, if we just make small concerted efforts to save here and there, over the entire Winter, this may make quite a considerable difference by the time the energy bills land on the doormat in Spring.
