I know, the whole reason people look to purchase property in the Southern European states is primarily down to the fact that they are after far warmer weather and to catch a glimpse of that great fiery ball, thingy, that is known as the Sun. But, they very often fail to even contemplate the massive sacrifices that will need to be taken when they settle in these countries.
For a start, the standard of living is nearly always going to be considerably lower than back in the UK. The laws are often going to prove to be exceptionally arbitrary and nonsensical and unless a fully qualified lawyer has been instructed (which rarely happens), they will be gambling their entire future in the pursuit of such a dream.
Okay, so the weather in Northern Europe may not be anything like as warm as somewhere like Spain or Italy, but nevertheless, a continental climate can prove to be far better than in the UK. Whether this is an apartment in Bavaria or even amsterdam apartments, if you are looking to buy property abroad, do ensure that you cover all options.
Once you move away from the influence of the ghastly Gulf Stream, you will tend to find that other countries in Western Europe are nothing like as miserable as the UK. Even some parts of Scandinavia can experience better weather during the main Summer months, and at least the seasons are as they should be, rather than one long year of Autumn.
Then, of course, you have to look at the standard of living in any country you are interested in moving to. Northern European countries (except the old Eastern Block countries) boast a better standard of living than we have in the UK. So when buying property abroad, it is always a good idea not to put all of your eggs in the wrong basket.
